Artist Statement

My paintings are depictions of life’s many obstacles, emotional and physical, heavily influenced by the cityscapes and urban architecture that surrounds me. Many of my works represent my adoration of Romanesque and Gothic architecture as well. The pieces range in a variety of subject matter including various psychological states, social interaction and self identity. Using stark contrast and expressionist brush strokes I am able to articulate these observations. In my work I enjoy creating abstract atmospheres with fine detail and symbolic elements. I believe abstraction and symbolism create a pathway for the imagination to surpass all boundaries set by reality. Thus opening up a variety of unique ways to approach pictorial representation. In my works throughout the years I have created worlds conducive to exactly this type of exploration.

As an artist it is important for me to be intimate with every aspect of production. The process of stretching my own canvas or building my own panels, along with the preparation and care that go into such activities, are vital to the success of each painting.

Thank you and enjoy.
